DEMOCRACY DAY CELEBRATION:

THE PRAGMATIC  DEMOCRAT, RT. HON. BARR OGANA LUKPATA, PhD felicitates CrossRiverians, Nigerians

Democracy as popularly opined is the government of the people by the people and for the people. This truism explains the man Rt.Hon. Ogana Lukpata PhD who has through the years of politicking distinguished himself as a true and pragmatic Democrat known for his avowed commitment to grassroots Democracy where the people choose their leaders.

Democracy has come to stay as a way of life in Nigeria since it's advent some two decades ago starting off with Chief Olusegun Obasanjo GCFR when the then Military Ruler Rtd.General Abdul salami Abubakar GCFR handed over to a democratically elected government on May 29, 1999 signalling the birth of a democracy that will be nurtured through the years devoid of any form of Military Interregnum.

Prior to this time precisely during Rtd. General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida GCFR, there was some form of attempt between 1990 and 1993 to return the country to a democratic government. During this period the regime introduced a two party system. The Social Democratic party (SDP) and the National Republican Convention (NRC). On this day June 12, 1993 Chief MKO Abiola of blessed memory under the SDP platform defeated his rival Alhaji Bashir Utman Tofa of NRC in an election adjudged the freest and fairest election ever conducted since the history of the nation’s electioneering. Unfortunately, the election was annulled under strange and unexplainable circumstances during the Military administration of General Babangida.

However, having successfully transited from one democratic administration to another in the past twenty one years and in consideration of the sacrifices made by late Chief MKO Abiola who lost his life in the process, alongside several others, it became apparent that they was need to change course and accord this noble respect to a great hero of Democracy in Nigeria by the current Muhammadu Buhari led administration to officially recognize June 12 as the new Nigerian democracy day.

Interestingly, our Distinguished Rt. Hon. Barr Ogana Lukpata PhD, the Distinguished Senator in waiting subscribed to democratic exercise 30 years ago as a chieftain of  the SDP, working closely with the Presidential and Vice Presidential Candidates of SDP, Chief MKO Abiola and Ambassador Babagana Kingibe. Moreso, having realized the Democratic direction of the country he chose the part of the Democrats by joining the People's Democratic Party (PDP) since the very beginning and is still an active and uncompromising Stakeholder till date. He embraced the Democratic ideals of Senator Liyel Imoke  CON, the immediate past Governor of Cross River State who further encouraged the emergence of Sen. Prof. Sir Ben Ayade as the Digital Governor of the State because of Imoke's disposition in extending opportunities to those he feels has enormous capacity to lead and deliver the dividends of Democracy to the people.

Rt.Hon. Barr Ogana Lukpata PhD, from every sense of the word is not just a Democrat but a True Democrat who feels the pulse of the Northern Senatorial District Constituents, an amalgam of Bekwara, Obanliku, Obudu, Ogoja and Yala LGAs. A detribalized Nigerian Democrat who will be there for all irrespective of the Local government Area. A support for OGANIZED is service for all. OGANA is OGANIZED for service to the people of the North.

Happy Democracy Day!!!

Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria!

Long live Cross River State!!

Long live Cross River State Northern Senatorial District!!!
