The Executive chairman of Obubra Local Government council, Hon. Dr Bassey Agara Tom has offered olive branch to aggrieved members of the party, especially those who vied unsuccessfully for various positions in the just concluded LG elections in the state. The chairman who disclosed this yesterday 10th June 2020 during an expanded meeting with Chapter Executives and Ward chairmen of the people's Democratic Party PDP held at the council Hall, Obubra in his effort to ensure a stronger and more united PDP in the Area, maintained that his victory is for the good of all including non members of the party. He assured that all members will be carried along in his administration.
'...As chairman of Obubra LGA, I am determined and willing to work with all members of the party including the aggrieved and the general public; and I will carry everyone along in the day to day running of the council. It is true I ran for chairman under the platform of PDP but that doesn't make me a PDP chairman. I am chairman of Obubra LGA not chairman of a faction of PDP neither am I chairman of the people that supported me alone. I am chairman of the entire Obubra. And therefore I represent the interest of everyone in Obubra.
Because we want to build a stronger and more united party in Obubra and a more prosperous LGA in the state, everyone is significant. We will work as a team to deliver the new Obubra that we all longed for."
However, the chairman maintained that the Hon. Denis Egor led chapter Exco is the only legitimate executive body of the people's Democratic Party in the Area as they are speculations that the party is currently operating two factions. He therefore called on all those parading themselves as a faction of the party in the area to cease forthwith or face the wrath of the law as the people's Democratic Party will not condone acts capable of dividing the party.
' To me there are no factions in Obubra PDP. What we simply have is a group of aggrieved members trying to ruin the party for their selfish reasons probably because they werent given tickets but we won't allow it. However, I urge all party faithfuls to recognize the Denis Egor led Chapter Exco as the only legitimate body of PDP in Obubra'
The chairman of Iyami ward, Mr Alexander Ekpor who thanked the executive chairman Hon. Dr Bassey Tom and the chapter chairman Hon Denis Egor for convening a meeting few days after the swearing in of both the chairmen and councillors in the state, emphasized the need for synergy with stakeholders of the party to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people. He however appealed to the chairman to use his good office to speedily reconcile aggrieved members in the interest of the party and Obubra as well as compensate those who have labored for the party through appointments and referencing.
Another speaker and chairman of Urban ward, Mr George Obasse maintained that regular meetings with the Chapter executives and Ward chairmen as well as funding for the party is key to the survival of the party in the area. He further revealed that an all inclusive Government is the fulcrum for building a new and greater Obubra.
On his part, the chapter chairman of the People's Democratic Party in Obubra Local Government Area, Hon. Denis Egor thanked all the ward chairmen and chapter executives for honoring the invitation even though it was prompt while charging them to be good ambassadors of the PDP as well as strive to win more disciples for the party.
